Oversize truck convoys have successfully delivered Granville Harbour Wind Farm’s transformer and switchroom to the project’s remote West Coast construction site.

Oversize semi-trailers were used to transport the 85-tonne transformer from the Port of Burnie along the 193-kilometre route. Similarly, the switchroom was transported using prime movers under escort from the Port of East Devonport.

The transformer and switchroom will now be installed in preparation for receiving clean, renewable power from the wind farm’s planned 31 turbines.

The next milestone for the $280 million project will be the start of transportation of the wind farm’s wind turbine blades and towers, currently in storage at the old paper mill site in Burnie.

A project spokesperson confirmed planned movements of these 372 oversize items is likely to begin in late July or early August.
