Operations at the 112MW Granville Harbour Wind Farm have officially commenced with final commissioning and site rehabilitation works now complete.
The last remaining members of the once-strong 200 construction team left the site yesterday handing over management of the Wind Farm to the operations team who will now manage the performance of the 31-turbine facility and oversee generation of approximately 400 gigawatt hours of clean energy every year.
Construction of the wind farm commenced in August 2018, delivering very positive employment and trade outcomes for the West Coast and Tasmanian economies.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lindsay Ward, said “that since satisfying performance testing and a compliance assessment by AEMO and TasNetworks, Granville Harbour Wind Farm has been outperforming expectations in recent weeks.”
“The construction project team has done an incredibly professional job to bring this project to a safe and successful close,” he said.
“Granville Harbour Wind Farm looks set to be one of the most productive and efficient wind farms in Australia and has helped the Tasmanian Government achieve its target of 100% renewable energy by 2022, a landmark achievement delivered well ahead of schedule,” he said.
Substantial economic contributions to the local economy are also set to continue. Ongoing maintenance and management requirements for the wind farm will inject an additional $2 million each year into the West Coast economy.
Granville Harbour Wind Farm is expected to operate for up to 25 years.
