Two further shipments of wind turbine tower sections destined for Granville Harbour Wind Farm are expected to arrive at the Port of Burnie this week. The vessels are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday 2nd and Saturday 6th April.
The shipments contain a total of 15 wind turbine towers – made up of 90 separate wind tower sections. The tower sections are up to 30 metres long, 5.3 metres wide and each weigh over 50 tonnes.
Components will be transported at night using custom trucks, to a nearby storage facility in Burnie where they will be held until needed on site.
The movement of tower sections from Burnie Port to the storage area near Bunnings Warehouse will commence on Wednesday 3rd April, with a load approximately every half hour between 7pm and 7am each night until Friday 12th April.
The approved transport route to the storage facility follows Port Road, Bollard Drive, Bass Highway and Marine Terrace. Each load will be accompanied by six escorts to manage traffic to ensure the safety of all road users. Minor traffic delays of around 2-5 minutes may be possible at times while transportation takes place.
This is the second and final shipment of tower sections for the wind farm. The first, which contained sections for 16 wind turbine towers, arrived at the Port of Burnie in January this year.
